I seem to recall seeing a "flying sub" in the TV series Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. Evidently such technology was anticipated in the 80s back in the 60s. Well, on the front cover of an edition of New Scientist I saw artwork of a design for a flying submarine. I even wonder if such craft have submerged and flown already. I would like to see confirmation of such technology in the not too distant future.

In any case the Japanese space agency Jaxa seem to have successfully deployed their solar sail Ikarus. I believe this technology is touted as the replacement for chemical fuel spacecraft.

I am featured on the BBC website and anxious to bring my weblinks to everyone's attention. To access the other details simply visit Google and search the web for any (or preferably each) one of the following:-

lunar mountaineering

The Earthlight in the lunar night

Earth shimmering like sapphire

craters resembling nipples

craters resembling dividing cells

wreck of Luna 2

motionized paintings

dent resistant bodywork

Hi Patricia,

I am also a great admirer of David Hedison's works, Irwin Allen, and, especially, of Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea.

I was also born in 1962, Porto Alegre, Brazil.

David Hedison was my hero when I was young and because of him I overcame huge obstacles to become a woman tug boat captain. I always wanted to tell him how much he influenced me.

David Hedison was also my first major crush. Tall, dark, and handsome and in that great uniform. I wrote to him when I was around 12 years old and received an 8 x 10 signed black and white photo back. You cannot believe how excited I was on the day it arrived in the mail. I still have the photo in the same frame, and I'm in my 50's now. I also bought a DVD set and enjoy the black and white "Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea" episodes the best. Sometimes, when we see an overgrown tree, my husband and I always say, "That looks like a monster from Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea. " I love to hear the theme song, and the "pinging" sounds bring back my memories instantly. I am glad to know that David Hedison is such a gentleman in "real life". I wish Mr. Hedison many more happy and healthy years ahead.

Hi! Just googling things this evening and put in David's name. So glad this site came up. I am a huge fan of his from the Voyage to the Bottom of the Sea days. I was a pre-teen then and Captain Crane was my first love. I would rush to our old black and white TV so I could be the first one to turn it on and watch the show! Watching the show I was inspired to hone my swimming skills and later on in life to scuba dive! Not bad for a little, pigtailed girl living in the projects in the Bronx!

Hello all,
I just saw David Hedison today (22-NOV-2009) signing autographs at a Memorabilia show in Birmingham, England. It was a great thrill. I showed my 14 year old son THE FLY a few months ago as it is a cinema classic- and to see the same guy over 50 years later was wonderful - and he looks really well and much younger than his 82 years.
regards,
Tony Ryan

I grew up watching and loving this show. Erwin Allen captured us back then with the stories (which were better when VBS was in black and white, as with color it became all about the monsters and visuals). David was the perfect number two to the Captain, the handsome young hero taking on the world while learning from the wise leader. No wonder Startrek Next Generation was a hit with boomers--we'd already learned to love the format from Voyage.

When I was around 5-6 years I would watch Voyage to the Bottom of the sea with my father. You were my very first crush!! Yes, I was going to marry Captain Lee Crane!! I then grew up and decided to marry Starsky and Hutch!! So sorry to leave you for them!! ha ha!!

When Voyage came in in DVD, I could not resist in getting it! I knew it would bring back awesome memories of me and my dad and plus I would love seeing the great flying sub again!

45 years old, happily married 19+ years and as soon as I saw you, my crush came right back!! I told Michael, my husband why I knew I married him! He is 6'2, thin with dark hair! I tell him that he was my second choice!! ha ha!! Yes, he has a great sense of humor! He would have to, being married to me!!

You brought so many wonderful memories of my childhood and now I am so enjoying watching you again!

Totally did not know you were also in Below Enemy Lines, which was one of my father's favorite movies!! Yes, I was daddy's little girl!! My family watched it the other day and my kids, much to their surprised really enjoyed it!!

OK, I am rambling too much! I just want to thank you so much for being such a talented actor and now thanks to DVDs another generation can be blessed and enjoy your talents like we did!

Take care always!!

David is one of my favorite actors. I was 5 years old when Voyage to the bottom of the sea was on TV the first run. I remember it a little because my Mom was a big fan of science fiction. She loved the movie The Fly because she wanted to be an Entomologist. Her love of Science and my exposure to it through media such as Voyage drew me into obtaining a degree Biology, minor in Chemistry, then later the field of Histotechnology. When I was in my teens Voyage came on in repeats, and with my hormones raging I thought "Oh my God: He is so gorgeous! So I was hooked I have to admit I didn't pay any attention to the plot, storyline, etc. I just wanted to see David. When a show came on that just featured another character I turned it off. TRUE.... I will be fifty years old this year (the year of the fly). I an a busy person, I manage an Anatomic Pathology laboratory in a 500 bed hospital in St. Louis. My inspirations David Hedison and my mother. Thanks David. Just so you know I have purchased the Voyage episodes, and I still faithfully watch it on American Life tv. I've googled you and seen what you're doing now Still gorgeous! I wish I could be in San Francisco, to meet you in person, but I can't (lots of responsiblities). Keep doing these shows because I will get there to see you soon. All my love to you and your family. Amanda

Jean Paul is my husband and I am going to translate because he doesn't speak English: Voyage to the bottom of the sea is a family affair. It is a good remember for him because the same as others fans he has seen the serie when he was very young. Now he watchs at voyage with me on English dvds, he can understand with the pictures and sometimes I make the translation. He's a very big fan of scifi. He says good luck to the site.
